Tennis instruction in the US runs from a certified teaching pro giving private lessons on a park court to full academies with fitness staff, boarding and tournament travel. Private lessons are priced per hour, semi-private and group clinics cost less per player, and most clubs run junior programs after school and adult drills in the evening. The USTA organizes the national rating (NTRP) and the adult and junior leagues most players join; the USPTA and PTR certify coaches. Summer camps take kids by the week or the day and usually include lunch and match play. Stadiums and event venues host college matches, USTA sanctioned tournaments and the occasional exhibition, with free or low-cost admission for most of them.

Asheville is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Asheville follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Understand there are rules about bringing in outside food, but to charge high school students, who are there from 8 AM to 9PM, for snacks and food at exorbitant prices is disgusting. We all know teenagers are usually always hungry. To not allow snacks and drinks from outside was extortion on the part of the organized vendors who provided food inside the arena. One pretzel was more expensive than a whole case of water! It would appear that colleges and universities that were once vestiges of learning have succumbed to greed versus a beacon of encouragement for higher education. Not all of the students were in a position to even purchase a snack, and some students barely had any extra money due to their school district being located in an economically disadvantaged area. I truly hope the needs of the students will become a priority next time there is an opportunity to make a profit.

I attend two days of meetings in a conference room located in Kimmel Arena. It was nice to talk on the concourse inside of the arena. Haven’t NOT watched a game in the arena, but I imagine the small arena makes for a great, intimate experience.
